First grade has been learning about Structures and Functions in NGSS- the ways in which animals adapt to the environment they live in. This week, they went on a field trip to the zoo. After going to the zoo, the students continued exploring these concepts in the form of a challenge. Posing the question "This summer you will develop animal feet in order to have a more fun summer vacation. What feet will you grow and why?" We read What if You Had Animal Feet? to build our schema. Then we #AppMashed with #Doodlebuddy and #Chatterpix! Kids took pics of their feet, drew the feet they wanted to grow, and recorded themselves explaining why they grew the feet they did. This was a fun extension activity that didn't require a whole lot of planning ahead of time. A win for everyone on a Friday morning!
